It was catching a glimpse of herself and wondering who that face belonged to that led a startled Jane Fonda to reverse her stand against having plastic surgery.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, it’s me,’” the Emmy and Oscar winning Fonda told TODAY’s Matt Lauer. “I feel so great and so rested and I look so different and I just decided — and I’m not proud of it — I decided I wanted to look more like how I feel.”

The actress and ’80s fitness guru told Lauer she didn’t feel pressure to maintain a certain look. “I just decided I wanted to buy myself some time and look more like how I feel,” said Fonda, who had work on her chin, neck and under the eyes.

The thrice-married Fonda, 73, says she’s feeling great, is happy, confident and in a relationship, all with a new book and two fitness DVDs for baby boomers, her first since 1995.

The reality TV star has made no secret about having breast implants in the past but has repeatedly denied making any change to her facial features.

Now JWoww says she is willing to undergo a facial recognition test by a plastic surgeon in an effort show she is all-natural from the neck up.

Speaking on the Wendy Williams show, she told the eccentric host that she wants to go on a morning television show to have her face analysed.

Despite cautious consumer spending overall, business information analysts at IBISWorld expect Australians will spend $6.99 billion in 2011-12 on their personal appearance.

That’s more than $313 per person, an increase of 18.8 per cent from the $5.88 billion spent in 2010-11, according to IBISWorld’s research.

We love to rant and rave about the excessively vigilant Advertising Standards Authority, the UK’s ban-happy media watchdog. But we have to admit: we actually support the agency’s latest move.

The Guardian reports that an advertisement for plastic surgery has been prohibited because it slyly targets young, impressionable girls.

The ad is made to look like a magazine cover with the word “COSMETIC” emblazoned across the top in neon print, looking nearly identical to another familiar phrase: “COSMOPOLITAN.”

Below, written like magazine cover lines in pink and aqua, the ad promotes “BOOB JOBS” and “SAME DAY SURGERY” with the pithy tagline, “get more, pay less!”

Campaign reports that the clever poster, displayed at bus stops in London, was part of a new campaign by Spire Healthcare for a same-day plastic surgery service at one of its 37 private hospitals.

But it had not been approved by the necessary authorities — and therefore got hit by the ASA.

The Oprah Magazine has a fascinating interview with a 55 year-old anonymous CEO who admits to having a massive amount of plastic surgery.

She’s very happy with her surgery, even though a lot of it seems to have been done to correct mistakes in other surgeries. Nonetheless, she seems to assign a lot of her success in life to surgical improvements to her looks.

There is a “postcode lottery” of access to the procedures, according to
the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons
(BAPRAS), with rates as low as nine per cent in some areas of England.

In others, almost half (43 per cent) get them. Nationally, of the
15,500 women who had mastectomies last year, just 21 per cent had
reconstruction, found an official audit.

Tim Goodacre, president of the association, said: “Unfortunately, services
in England are very much determined by local provision. It is very patchy.
It’s very much the case that there’s a postcode lottery.”

Breast reconstruction had historically been put on “the back burner”
when planning breast cancer surgery, he explained, adding: “In some
areas, there’s just not enough surgeons around.”

At its winter conference today (Wednesday), BAPRAS is calling for
patients to have greater access to plastic surgeons, who can offer different
techniques of breast reconstruction.
